so can you talk a bit about how you see the san francisco giants as being those role models and playing an active role and being upstanders? >> part of it is the role model stand point and using baseball as a hook to get people's attention. when we have a captive audience of 40,000 people plus a wide tell television and radio audience, we use that to get across the message about an issue. sometimes we get letters, hey, i came to see a game with my son and instead i'm hearing about a murder committee in yosemite and that's a downer of a way to start the day. sometimes that's a tough conversation with a fan but at least at the end of the day they've taken something away with them. also at the grass roots level we have a junior giants program, it's a youth baseball program throughout california. we use baseball as the hook to get kids to come together to learn about teamwork, we have a whole can urriculum that's based on the importance of reading, literacy, education, we have a whole violence prevention can urriculum, we have 22,000 kids playing baseball throughout northern california, jun

i am the chair of the coalition for san francisco neighborhoods planning and land use committee. we are very concerned that this was set up very dangerous precedence regarding the approval process. this project was denied twice before. and should have 12-month waiting period. and here it's only been three months and it's up for approval again. and we think this is a bad, bad precedent. as far as this project should be coming up in 12 months, not three months. other thing is that we find it somewhat distressing that the federal judge is going to impose their will and save them time and force the city to go back or disregard city policy and process. we think that should not occur. an historic resource is been planed for destruction/demolition and if this should occur, there should be a significant community benefit. and the commission, i believe, commissioner wu has stated that the community benefit is not there. and it seems like this new project will not allow it to happen. there are plans for senior housing, senior affordable housing, which the city drastically needs. the city d

we have heard a lot about the challenges that many communities in san francisco face do to language barriers. i'm curious about the impact that is having on the cases. >> i can tell you the prosecution side of it. i think it is much harder to prosecute cases when there is a language barrier because we are going through multiple levels. the issues that i have seen is that statements from the victim are not accurately translated; or, the best way for me to explain it is that when you speak a different language the translation of one word can mean different things. and it can mean slightly different things. so one interpreter may translate the word one way. say, "push." another interpreter may interpret the same word saying it was "a hit." we now have two inconsistent statements. one of the things i see in trial all the time, rightfully so, the defense is doing their job. they are pointing out inconsistencies. we can argue that they are not inconsistencies because of language barriers but it depends on how the jury will see that. when we are presenting cases to the jury they have in their mind

we serve to the indian community, which is a huge, huge population now in san francisco. and we serve them vegetarian and vegan which is a stricter diet, i guess. and we actually prepare the food fresh. so nothing is deep fried or made that was frozen and reserved. so it will take a little more effort on our part to actually produce this food and it will take a while to deliver and take a while to sit and seat the meal as well. so it is a little bit different than the restaurants around the corner from us. so it happens and that we are in a strange situation where we actually have four 24/7 restaurants half a block away from us. i actually drew a map in the back and so you could go to slide six or seven and a map that shows that we are next to the cafe, and jack in the box at 24/7 and cafination and a diner. by, or most of the time, this restaurant is a very quiet, family, with children running around, that kind of a place. unfortunately, we are also some what have to be on the weekends between the hours of 2:00 to 4:00 a crowd that comes out of clubs and ambassadors and

the embellishment, the carvings, it represents commerce, navigation, all of the things that san francisco is famous for. >> the wood you see in the board of supervisor's chambers is oak and all hand carved on site. interesting thing about the oak is there isn't anymore in the entire world. the floors in china was cleard and never replanted. if you look up at the seceiling you would believe that's hand kof carved out of wood and it is a cast plaster sealing and the only spanish design in an arts building. there are no records about how many people worked on this building. the workman who worked on this building did not all speak the same language. and what happened was the person working next to the other person respected a skill a skill that was so wonderful that we have this masterpiece to show the world today.
